Routine and advanced restorative dentistry (from fillings to crowns and bridges)

Just about all of the routine and advanced restorative dentistry is carried out in-house. One of the dentists has undertaken further postgraduate study in this area and is also a part time clinical teacher in the subject at the University of Dundee’s dental school. Routine restorative dentistry involves the repair of teeth damaged by the decay process or teeth that have become worn. This can range from fillings to the additions of adhesive dental materials. Use of materials are discussed with the patient prior to their use. Sometimes when a tooth is heavily filled it may break so a crown is placed on the tooth to prevent this. The crown not only strengthens the tooth but improves its appearance. When a tooth has been lost then a false tooth can be joined to a crown on the adjacent tooth/teeth to form a “bridge.” This is cemented into place. There are other designs of bridges these days which do not require the placement of a crown on the adjacent tooth - this method saves a lot of natural tooth. Veneers can also be placed on anterior teeth which also improves their appearance, and in certain cases, their alignment. The Practice is well equipped to handle cases from simple to very advanced cases. For further information visit the site belonging to the British Society for Restorative Dentistry.
