Orthodontics
Orthodontics is that branch of dentistry which aims to straighten teeth and correct some jaw malpositions. This is done by the patient wearing "braces." These can be either fixed to the teeth or be removable. The Practice has a specialist orthodontist, Mr Colin Larmour, who carries out all the orthodontic treatment in the Practice. If the patient's dentist diagnoses a developing or potential problem, then early referral is made to the orthodontist. The orthodontist will thoroughly assess the patient and decide whether the patient should either be monitored or whether active treatment should be undertaken. The aim of orthodontic treatment is improve patient's smiles but also improves function by aligning the teeth for most efficient chewing. With progress in treatment options, many adults are now being treated.
Further information on orthodontics can be obtained from the British Orthodontic Society.
