Oral disease screening
We have developed a comprehensive and thorough oral examination protocol in the Practice to maximise the information yield achieved when examining your mouth. Instead of just looking for dental decay “cavities” in your teeth, each dentist will look for any disease associated with your
• oral soft tissues “skin” of the mouth/tongue/throat etc for lumps, bumps and even cancers which can be detected at an early stage and treated more successfully
• evidence of trauma – damage by force to your teeth and soft tissues
• your gums form the foundations for your teeth so it is critical that they are in good health
• your occlusion (how your teeth fit together and any problems associated with that)
•dental caries (decay or cavities)
• Non Carious Tooth Surface Loss – tooth wear is an increasingly common problem these days
• anything else which differs from the normal e.g. how your dentures are performing etc.
All members of the clinical team are trained in this detailed examination procedure and this ensures that no oral disease is missed thus improving your diagnosis and opening up further treatment options for you to consider.
