Minor oral surgery

Most minor oral surgery is carried out within the Practice. One of the dentists has undergone further training this area and does most of this type of work in the Practice. Minor oral surgery ranges from the extraction of difficult teeth, extraction of broken roots still embedded in the jaw bone, extraction of wisdom teeth, soft tissue surgery such as biopsies and removal of lumps on the lips or cheeks. All of this treatment is carried out in the Practice under local anaesthesia where the patient is given an injection into the gum but is still wide awake. Most people find the thought of the procedure worse than the procedure itself! In the Practice, there is a very high standard of cross infection control and the latest equipment to thoroughly clean all the instruments used (if they are not disposable) after the procedure. If after discussion, patients feel that they would prefer sedation with local anaesthesia or in extreme cases general anaesthetic then this can be arranged with a referral to hospital.
