Experienced dental hygienists
The Practice has two dental hygienists who do the majority of the periodontal treatment in the Practice, most of which is preventive in nature. If your dentist recommends that you see the hygienist, then normally a 30 minute appointment will be made for you. The hygienist will then help you clean the more difficult areas in your mouth by giving you advice and they will remove any tartar and stains from your teeth. The bacteria which cause gum disease colonise around the teeth and on the tartar. Removal of tartar will also facilitate your own cleaning regime. Stain in itself doesn’t cause any disease but removal of it from the teeth will improve their appearance. Tea, coffee, red wine and smoking are the main culprits for stain.
