Endodontics (root treatments)
Endodontics is the treatment involving the inside of the tooth. When the pulp “nerve” of the tooth had died, usually because bacteria have penetrated the inside of the tooth then it must be removed and thoroughly cleaned to rid the tooth of the bacteria and the dead nerve. This treatment is called root canal therapy or less correctly “root treatment.” If not treated, an “abscess” can result.
The procedure involves getting in to the pulp chamber and root canals, thoroughly cleaning them with special files and flushing the debris out with chemicals to help kill the bacteria (c.f. chimney sweeping!) and then the inside of the tooth is filled up and the filling replaced. Normally as crown or some other device is placed on the tooth after this procedure to prevent the tooth from fracturing as it has been weakened by the procedure. It is technically a demanding procedure which requires time but the Practice has all the latest equipment and techniques to improve treatment and maximise success. One of the dentists devotes a lot of time doing this type of treatment and accepts referrals from other dentists in the area.
